A private investment firm built on fundamental analysis, flexible asset allocation, and a disciplined macro and risk framework.

Senator Investment Group LP is a private investment firm co-founded in 2008 by Douglas Silverman to pursue investments opportunistically across the capital structure, with an emphasis on identifying investment opportunities resulting from change.

The firm’s event-driven strategy employs a fundamentals-first investment approach, attempting to identify catalyst-driven equities and dislocated or otherwise attractive credit instruments while remaining cognizant of macro factors. The firm also manages a thematic strategy which invests in what we believe to be strategically important assets at the confluence of geopolitical, technological, and industrial megatrends.
‍
Senator derives its name from the Roman Senate, reflecting the firm’s belief in rigorous debate, open dialogue, and diverse perspectives in the investment process. Senator is based in New York City and has over 25 employees, about half of whom are investment professionals.

Senator’s investment strategy is grounded in four core pillars.

Pillar 1

Flexible Mandate

We invest across the capital structure based on where we believe the best opportunities exist at different points in the cycle. Within equities, we lead with fundamentals and concentrate on events, seeking to identify potential catalysts to crystallize value. In credit, we target misunderstood or potentially mispriced situations and stressed and distressed opportunities.

Pillar 2

Event-Driven Approach

We proactively identify potential events driving change within companies and industries. We also retroactively assess announced events to determine synergies that we feel may not be fully understood. Our sophisticated portfolio construction framework seeks to enhance alpha generation while enabling downside protection.

Pillar 3

Macro-Awareness

Macro is a front-office function at Senator. We incorporate economic data, style factors, flows, and trading dynamics into portfolio positioning in an effort to anticipate which market events may introduce volatility – and opportunity.

Pillar 4

Thematic Lens

Secular themes help inform and organize our research and asset allocation. We seek to identify opportunities downstream of dominant megatrends and at the intersection of constrained supply and structural demand.
